San Francisco was picked as 2014 Traveler’s Choice winner for 3rd best US destination and 25th in the world by Trip Advisor! With good reason!! It is a wonderful city!!

The trip almost didn’t happen. I was to travel here with a group of people who ended up flaking out on me. I almost cancelled the trip as I had never done a solo trip to a new destination before. I am very glad I never cancelled!

Solo travel turned out to be fantastic! This actually gave me the courage to take more solo trips later. If you wait for the right company to come along to set out on a trip, you may wait a very long time! “She who goes alone can start today; but she who travels with another must wait till the other is ready” Travel Noire

I secured my hotel reservation and researched all the sightseeing activities to do while there. While i do use guidebooks for reference I like to stay off the recommended places and discover new ones on my own.

One of the highlights was the Alcatraz Island Tour. This historical prison is fascinating! Alcatraz tour delves deep into the history of the island, the prison and some of it’s most famous inhabitants e.g Al Capone. The prison is expansive and the audio guide makes it better as you move at your own pace.

I made the usual tourist stop at the Golden Gate Bridge, hopped on a trolley, dined are several establishments, hang out at the Pier 39 etc. The best part of my visit was all the new friends I made on this trip!! I found the locals I encountered to be very pleasant!
